Maintaining a Clean Environment

Trash collection banner

Georgetown University appreciates its place in this beautiful and historic neighborhood. We are committed to keeping it clean.

To maintain a clean and healthy environment, we have invested in new, daily trash pickup on neighborhood streets of Burleith and West Georgetown, twice a day, seven days a week.

In recognition of the limited parking resources available in our historic neighborhood, Georgetown provides shuttle buses (GUTS buses) between the main campus and the Rossyln and Dupont Circle Metro stations, the Law Center and Wisconsin Avenue campuses and through Arlington, Va. More than 2 million riders have uses these buses.

We recognize that our historic neighborhood draws many visitors. To promote a healthy environment, we are working to eliminate unregistered and unpermitted vehicles from parking on neighborhood streets.

  • Students living on-campus are prohibited from bringing cars to campus and are unable to register vehicles in the District of Columbia with an on-campus address;
  • Students living off-campus are strongly discouraged from bringing cars to campus. Those that do are required by University police to comply with District laws regarding vehicle registration and in addition to register their vehicle with the university. The university regularly follows–up and will impose sanctions on students who are not in compliance;
  • Contractors are required to use public transportation or university shuttles from metro and satellite parking lots;
  • All other visitors are encouraged to walk, bike, use public transportation and university shuttles.
